Criminal Cases

Before anything else, it must be emphasized that a “person must be presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

According to University Libraries, “A criminal justice system is a set of legal and social institutions for enforcing the criminal law in accordance with a defined set of procedural rules and limitations. In the United States, there are separate federal, state, and military criminal justice systems, and each state has separate systems for adults and juveniles.

Crimes are actions or omissions, activities, conduct, and behaviors that are illegal or against a written law by a federal or state body. These comprise offenses that are punishable by incarceration or death for some state bodies.

Some examples of crimes are the following:

  1. Crimes against a person include murder/homicide, assault, battery, domestic violence, and sexual crimes.
  2. Crimes against property include burglary, larceny, embezzlement, or false pretenses.
  3. White-Collar crimes or Corporate crimes, such as theft, fraud, bribery, and tax evasion.
  4. Non-violent crimes include drug possession, driving under the influence (of drugs or alcohol), and gun possession.

Handling criminal cases are very complex. An accused must hire a highly competent lawyer to try the case. It is more of an injustice if someone is punished for a “crime” that he did not do. But, those who actually have done the deed, he must pay for their crime.
